BRINGING BACK THE JOYS OF THE FRONT PAGE

Updated: Feb 22, 2021

Headlines are nothing new to our family of journalists.

But as the newspaper industry morphs through all its current changes, it’s hard to find a good headline anywhere.

Seasoned old news people like us are missing the high quality of writing, the depth of investigative journalism, the smell of the ink and the rumble of the presses.

It’s an industry that’s not entirely lost nor forgotten, but it’s just not the same today.

However … hold the presses!

Outstanding former newspaperwoman Leanne Abernethy has brought back the joys of a good front page, right into the heart of our homes.

When our grandson Elijah turned 21 recently, it seemed a natural choice to present him with a memento he’ll be able to keep and display for the rest of his life.

After we answered some questions from Leanne, dug out a few choice photos of the lad and enjoyed “proofreading” the page just for old times’ sake, we were absolutely delighted with the resulting layout and content of this professionally framed page.

There couldn’t be a more appropriate biography of this young man, with all the humour, the facts and the spirit of his life to date.

My late father, who was editor, author, globetrotter and linguist all in one, would have been as pleased as we were to see this perfect gift presented to his great grandson Elijah.

Leanne, we can’t thank you enough for this expertly produced souvenir of a very important day in our lives.

We’ll be recommending Front Page Gifts to everyone we know and please note that our family has some other significant birthdays this year, so you’ll definitely be hearing from us again soon.

All the best,

Josephine Smith and family
